A Christmas Thank-you

Boom co-founder David Lloyd writes:
This is always the busiest time of year at Boom. With all our special programmes, extra presenters - and scattering in our typically wide variety of Christmas songs, it’s almost like creating a new radio station for a few weeks!
Thanks to Paul Robey in Nottingham, Duncan Leven in Glasgow, Gary Burton in Derbyshire and Derek Webster in Hebden Bridge for all their efforts in holding the reins to ensure all our festive programming on our three stations runs smoothly.
Your feedback always makes our efforts worthwhile. Of all the radio stations I’ve ever played a part in during almost 50 years now, the response to Boom has been the most enthusiastic. And at this time of year, we know we are relied on just that little bit more and your generous messages often touch us.
As you can imagine, the station is an exhausting project none of us were expecting at this time of our lives - but we’re having an absolute ball. Looking back at 2025, we loved hearing Pete Murray on his 100th birthday - and even more so when he called the day after with emotional words after reading all your messages.
It was great too to hear David Hamilton tell the story of the BBC Light Programme 80 years since its launch (repeated on Boom Light on Christmas Day at 5pm) - and how amazing that the man who was one of the Channel's last broadcasters in '67 is still on-air today on Boom. Similarly, our special with Jenny Hanley and Sir Trevor McDonald marking 70 years of ITV was really well-received (repeated on Boom Radio on Boxing Day at 8pm).
Next year sees our fifth anniversary and we’re looking forward to getting together again to mark the occasion. The venue is booked! Given we each work from our own homes – those are occasions we and our partners really treasure.
We just wanted to say thanks again for listening – and for your support in telling others about the station. It is hugely appreciated. We are flattered to be part of your life. The loyalty you show means we have broken records this year with our official audience figures.
The other big thank you must go to our commercial partners. As you’ll be aware, we are not part of any major media empire – just a group of old friends with a dream. Without the income from those companies, we would not be able to pay the significant bills to stay on-air.
We are so pleased they have chosen Boom as a powerful part of their marketing strategy – and we’d be grateful if you’d consider what they offer when the opportunity arises. We’ve listed a few of our familiar key commercial supporters below – particularly those we tend to receive queries about.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends from all at Boom.
David
