Fran was born in Hampstead in London. After several years working as a secretary in the South, Fran began her radio career during the early days of commercial radio in Bournemouth.

Radio 2 called – and Fran joined the network in 1990, rising to present the news to the nation in Terry Wogan’s much-loved breakfast programme.

Fran moved to the Chilterns in 2018 – and adopted Barney, her first ever dog.
