Sir Tim Rice's Legacy Tracks

What does it mean to leave a legacy?

For some, it’s music that continues to inspire generations long after its creators are gone. For others, it is the difference they make to the lives of future generations.

In a special programme for Boom in partnership  with Save the Children, Sir Tim Rice explores the enduring power of legacy through some of the greatest recordings ever made. Celebrating the unsung musicians, songwriters, producers and arrangers behind famous hits, he reveals how their creativity lives on, continuing to touch people's lives years later.

Having spent a lifetime writing lyrics, producing records and creating world-famous musicals, Tim understands better than most the importance of what we leave behind.

Through a selection of Legacy Tracks, he tells the stories of remarkable individuals whose contributions can still be heard today in songs which will live forever.

Baker Street would not be quite the track it is without its incredible Raphael Ravenscroft (pictured) sax solo – and would Telstar be so memorable without the keyboard skills of Geoff Goddard?

The programme will feature similar striking contributions within works by The Beatles, Barbra Streisand, The Beach Boys, ABBA and many more.

There’s the songwriting partnership of Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka behind Love Will Keep Us Together and Michael B. Tretow, who helped create ABBA's distinctive sound on When All Is Said and Done

Also, Bo Wagner's innovative marimba break on Moonlight Feels Right; and Tony Peluso's groundbreaking fuzz guitar solo on The Carpenters' Goodbye To Love.

Each track is a reminder that while people may be gone, the impact of their lives can continue long into the future.

That belief is at the heart of Boom Radio's partnership with Save the Children. Just as music can become a lasting legacy, a gift left in a Will can help create a better future for generations of children to come. Gifts in Wills allow Save the Children to be there for children when they need support most, ensuring that one person's values and compassion can continue changing lives long after they are gone.
