The Boom TV ad

We often receive emails from listeners who can’t believe that others they bump into don’t yet know about Boom Radio.

Actually, it’s not surprising as we’re still really the new kid on the block. Other broadcasters  have been around many years - and they arrived when there were just a handful of radio stations!

Our goal is to get the word out about Boom. We know you do your bit and we can’t stress how valuable that is.

There are other ways too – and there’s no doubt a decent TV campaign can play its part, so that’s what we planned, echoed too on social media.

Should we cast Hollywood stars, major comedy names or drumming gorillas to appear in our ad? Nope. We thought our best option was to look to you.

It struck us that photo albums from our generation are all much the same. We didn’t take many pics in those days – and they are often remarkably similar. The Christmas table with too many people around it, the seaside shot with dad with his trouser legs rolled up, the one of you proudly beside your first car, the night out with your teenage friends or your first holiday as ‘adults’. The wedding shot of you in the embarrassing fashions of the time - and the mischievous or shy school pics.

When we asked you to rifle through your albums and send in your vintage pics, we were amazed how many came in – and we’d like to say a huge thanks for taking the trouble to take part.  We only wish we could have included more – so thanks even if yours wasn’t one of those chosen - and we’ve added a few others to the foot of this page.

Once the pics were selected, it was down to our production house to add movement to them to bring them to life – and they were set them to music. That record choice was obvious. From what you tell us, Bringing On Back The Good Times summed it all up – and that Love Affair record will never tire.

By pure chance, one of its writers, the brilliant Phillip Goodhand Tait is a Boom fan. He was delighted it would be used “I always knew Boomers had good taste”. In explaining the background to the song, he said: “I believe my girlfriend decided to forgive me, following the sanctimonious advice I'd given in Love Affair's previous hit "One road" which was all about respecting other people's opinions i.e. mine!!  John Cokell, co-wrote it and suggested the title. We wrote it quickly which is always a good feeling in songwriting”.

You'll see the ad on several TV channels in November – and several shorter versions will be all over Facebook. If it pops up, do us a favour and share it!

Thanks to some of the other pics sent in above from Mike, Sue Rutherford, Lorraine Pagan, Garry Steel.
