Why can't I find you on DAB?

You can find Boom Radio on DAB+  across much of the UK, and Boom Light in many major cities.  Boom Rock is not on DAB+.

Am I in your area?

Our Boom Radio DAB+ signal reaches 84% of households You can check your postcode here to see if we're in your area.

We broadcast on shared transmitter network alongside 20 other stations, including Planet Rock, Times Radio, Kerrang and Talk. Coverage is the same for all these stations, if you cannot receive our signal, you won't be able to receive those either.

Boom Light is available in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, Glasgow, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Poole.

You may hear other DAB stations as they are on different transmitter networks.

Good news: You can still hear us online wherever you are!  On your smart speaker (Alexa/Google) or phone/tablet/computer.

Why can I see Boom Radio or Boom Light listed on DAB but not hear anything?

You have one of the older DAB radios which don't receive the newer DAB+ stations like Boom.

If you can hear Times Radio but not Boom, then that suggests you can receive our signal, but your radio cannot 'decode' it. You can find a great range of DAB+ radios from our friends at Pure, here.

Why does the DAB+ signal dip in and out at home?

Several factors affect DAB+ reception: signal strength in your area, weather conditions, your radio's sensitivity, where it sits in the house, how the aerial is positioned and interference from other electrical equipment.

Worth trying: Move your radio to a different spot, extend the aerial fully and point it in different directions to see if reception improves.

We broadcast on transmitters that are operated by a third party, so the signal strength is the same for all of the stations using that network.

Why does the DAB signal dip in and out on my car radio?

Our signal covers most major roads but there are some gaps. Reception can also be affected by your car radio's sensitivity, weather, direction of travel and even your demister.

Boom Light is currently available only in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, Glasgow, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Poole.

If you have a smartphone, you can connect it to your car audio system for uninterrupted listening, you can find out more here.

Why isn’t Boom in stereo on DAB?

Broadcasting in stereo on DAB would either reduce audio quality or double our costs, and most people listen in mono anyway. Our online stream is in stereo and offers better quality – around half our listeners now tune in this way.

Why can't I get Boom Rock on DAB?

It's not currently available on DAB, though we'd love that too. You can hear Boom Rock on a smart speaker, mobile phone, tablet, laptop or computer. Find out more about listening options here.

Why aren't Boom stations on FM?

Sadly, it's not possible. There's no more room on FM for new national stations.

The reason we can exist at all is thanks to the fresh space on the dial created by DAB. DAB has meant an increase from a handful of UK stations to many hundreds.

How do I listen if I can't get DAB?

You can hear our stations anywhere in the UK on a smart speaker like Alexa or Google, mobile phone, tablet, laptop or computer. If you're travelling, you may be able to connect your phone to your car audio system. Find out more here.
